Mary Wallace
Bass Drum

I currently serve as the pipe sergeant of the GRP&D grade 3 unit and play side drum in the band's grade 5 unit. I previously served as pipe major of the grade 3 (then grade 4) unit from 2002 to 2007. My previous bands include St. Andrews Presbyterian College Pipe Band, City of Washington, Oran Mor and The 78th Frasers. In addition to band work, I also compete in solos. I am currently compete in grade 1 solo piping in both the EUSPBA and the PPBSO. I also hope to compete in professional solos in Scotland for the first time in 2010 when I fly over for The World Pipe Band Championships. I also plan on competing at The Scottish Piping Society of London contest next November. For the past five years John Cairns has been and continues to be my instructor for both light music and piobaireachd. He is a former pipe sergent of The 78th Frasers and current pipe major of Peel Regional Police. His method of teaching really speaks to me as a musician and it is through his guidance I plan on entering the professional ranks in solos in 2011. With almost 20 years of playing experience and 10 years of teaching experience, I am available to teach piping to both bands and individuals who currently compete in solos or aspire to enter the world of solo competing. I teach beginners as well as current competing solos up to and including grade 2. Because learning and passing on the knowledge is a huge part of my teaching ethic, I hold The Institute of Piping's (IOP) Senior, Graduate, and Performers Certificates. Since has been amalgamated in the Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board (PDQB) these certificates are equal to the PDQB's Level 5, Level 6, and Performer Certificates. Because I had to plans on hold, I plan to resume completion of the requirement to earn the PDQB's Teacher Certificate in 2010.
